This diocesan office exists to enable parishes to carry out their own ministry of the Word among the people of their areas.

We are all emissaries of Jesus Christ, just as Jesus is the unique emissary of the Father. Our directions come from Jesus through the apostles:

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.
Mt.28:19-20

The National Directory of Catechesis (USCCB 2005) echoes the emphasis of recent popes on the new evangelization and tells us “…to evangelize individuals is not sufficient…. The new evangelization calls for a clearly conceived, serious and well organized effort to evangelize the culture….within the whole process of evangelization, the aim of catechesis is to be the teaching and maturation stage…to better know this Jesus to whom one has entrusted oneself…” NDC pp. 46-47, 55.

The Office of the Word is committed to furthering the mission of Jesus, the primary evangelizer and teacher.
