GUIDELINES
-
The process of growth leading to mature Christian faith
is initiated in Baptism and fulfilled in resurrection life. This process
recognizes the developmental stages all individuals move through. Mature
Christian life can unfold only in an environment that is continually nurturing
and challenging. (NCD 32, 33)
-
The most effective agent of faith formation is the Christian
home/community/parish that is welcoming and inviting, bound together in
worship and sacramental life, and living out the gospel message in service
to others. (GCD 21, 23)
Small faith-sharing groups and small Christian communities organized within
the parish community provide an environment for catechesis that enhances
individual growth in the context of a nurturing faith community. (EN 58)
-
The catechesis of adults, with appropriate methodology
and done in an organized manner, is central to the existence of a fully
Christian community.
The community cannot carry out a permanent catechesis of its members without
the direct and skilled participation of adults; the catechesis of the young
depends on the witness and teaching of the adult members of the community.
(CT 43, AC 25; GCD 20; NCD 40, 185)
-
A dimension of faith formation, that is, "to inform,"
is the passing on of truths, beliefs, and traditions through formal and
informal education. (GCD 21, 24)
-
To be “formed” is that dimension of faith
formation which nurtures faith, character and consciousness. It moves beyond
cognition to shaping attitudes and values, beyond knowing to living in a
Christian manner. (GCD 22; NCD 32, 170)
-
A further dimension of faith formation, that is, “transformation”
refers to the on-going conversion of life experienced by followers of Jesus
as they learn to recognize and appreciate the presence of God in their lives
and consciously commit them-selves to bringing about the Reign of God. (NCD
35)
-
The preparation for and the celebrations of the sacraments,
in particular the sacraments of initiation, should reflect all dimensions
of faith formation. (NCD 117, 119, 121)
-
The “lived Christian faith” refers to the
day-to-day Christian discipleship exhibited by the manner of life of the
members of the Church in bringing about the Reign of God, engaging every
aspect of people's lives, e.g., spiritual, personal, interpersonal, social,
political, economic and ecological. (NCB 35, 150)
-
Faith formation and evangelization are intimately related,
each giving life to and flowing from the other. (NCD #35)
Evangelization is both the privilege and the responsibility of all baptized
people of God to proclaim (announce) through the power of the Holy Spirit,
the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. (GMD Part I, p.2)
Evangelization is the unending task given to the Church by the Lord Jesus
to stir and to stimulate all its actions until all nations have heard his
Good News and until every person has become his disciple.(GMD Part I, p.5)
